Our History

2020

The idea of establishing a palliative care home for the Memphrémagog RCM emerged in 2020, championed by members who recognized the importance of providing an adapted alternative to palliative care in hospital or home settings.

2021-2022

The founding members familiarized themselves with the principles of collective entrepreneurship and visited several recognized palliative care homes in Quebec, in order to draw inspiration from best practices and better define the project’s foundations.

2023

New members joined the team, enabling the expansion of expertise. The project was presented to key partners in the healthcare network, the Memphrémagog Hospital Foundation, as well as to municipal, provincial, and federal elected officials, all of whom expressed their support.

2024

On January 31, 2024, and after review, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), now Santé Québec, officially authorized the project, recognizing the importance of ensuring a palliative care service offering for the Memphrémagog RCM, particularly due to the region’s unique demographic growth.
Following this positive news, the Board of Directors officially incorporated the Memphrémagog Palliative Care Home and obtained charitable organization status for its Foundation.

2025

The team adopted a distinctive logo representing the Memphrémagog Palliative Care Foundation and its future home. Thus, a hand was chosen, symbolizing welcome and mutual aid, upon which the region’s mountains and the Ginkgo biloba tree are outlined.

Why the Ginkgo Biloba?

The Ginkgo biloba is a symbol of eternal life. It is one of the oldest tree species on Earth (270 million years old), considered sacred in various cultures.
